Artist Alley Cosplay

Here's an idea for "Artist Alley" cosplay concept. For all the artist that can't get a table in a comic convention (for example... SDCC), you can put this together and wander the floor. Probably would not be wise to actually charge for sketches or sell comics but you could pass out some business cards perhaps. ;) If anyone makes this concept for real, please send me a photo!

Deathlok V2

Second design for Deathlok on the TV show, Agent of Shield.  *This is just fan art! I obviously didn't good too crazy with the design.  Holding true to the style of the TV show by keeping most of the costume real world items.

As it turns out, his face plate is under his skin which was established in one of the episode.  So, for this version, I imagine he would get into a fight and his left side of his face scrapped up to expose the metal underneath.  The design is still TV budget sensitive (instead of spending the money on a CGI leg), I would spend it on the face makeup and a new vest.  Other then that, I'll reuse what is already made like the gauntlet and the rest of the costume is basic tactical military gear.  Silver rings around the arm and leg hint at the cyborg implants.

Deathlok- TV version

I saw the new Shield (TV show) version of Deathlok (bottom left) and was not satisfied with the design.  I totally understand this is a TV show and it doesn't have a crazy budget to invest into a side character, still it could have more resemblance to the original source material without going over budget.

So my take is to use about the same amount of material and details.  For about the same cost (imo), I went with a vest design to be more in line with the comic character.  Instead of showing the mech arms and leg (which is expensive CG), I use silver/metallic trim to hint at the cyborg implant underneath the clothes.  The face plate I feel is critical part/look of Deathlok, which I feel should be part of the final design.  Okay, the face plate is extra cost and not ideal to hide J. August Richards face... but it could also come off doing the non-combat moment, right?  It wouldn't hurt to give him a gun either.

Below is photo from Shield TV show (left) and the comic version (right) for comparison.
It's possible that the show will continue to evolve the character to be more like the comic version.  We'll just wait and see.

Stranded

There's a new Syfy show, Hot Set.  The premise is for two set production teams to build a functional movie set base on a script concept.  The first episode was to design a set that have to do with a astronaut that crash land on an alien planet. So this is my idea for that challenge.

The show is very similar to Face Off.  I really dig those shows because it could be a fun exercise to do the challenge and practice environment/character concept art.

Don't Blink!

The new season of Doctor Who started a few weeks ago.  Good times.  Of course, I'm waiting for the return of weeping angels so that should be fun.  :)

Dark Lady

My daughter had a nightmare recently and she wrote up a description of the Dark Lady.

"Dark Lady -wears a Victorian style black dress made of a silklike material. With puffy sleves about half way down the upper arm with the rest of the sleve a tighter fit. Black flowers decorate around the top of the skirt line and spareingly mixed in with the folds of the skirt. Also at top of the left shoulder (where the sleve meets the bodice) ther is a small bundle of black flowers trailing (very slightly) towards the collar bone. Carries a bundle of cloth (with both hands) like a bouque made of the same material as the dress. The veil is black and there is a cluster of black roses near the back of the veil adding volume to the back layers of the veil. Many more layers in the back then the front. Front only just enough layers to obscoure the face. Wears Mary janes with black stockings. Along with black elbow gloves running underneath the dress."

So this is my version of her.

Tin Man

My take on the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz.  Since he's a robot, I incorporated the axe right on his head.  Maybe, I'll take a crack at the other characters too.

So long 2011...

2011 was pretty eventful for me. Doing the artist alley at ECCC in March was a lot of fun. I took tons of cosplay photos even met Phoenix Jones.

inFAMOUS 2 and inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood (DLC) for PS3 came out this year. Also did another panel talk at PAX Prime on 2D cutscenes construction for inFAMOUS to a small but enthusiastic crowd... thanks to all those folks that showed up. Hope you like the t-shirts. ;)

Going into 2012, I have couple of personal projects in the works and will share when I have anything concrete to show... so check back often.

Finally... Thanks everyone for checking out this little art blog! I really appreciate it and will try to post as much as possible. Hope everyone have a happy and prosperous new year in 2012!!
