Super Real sketch

One of the cool thing about going to the con, is to meet other artists. At the Emerald con, I got to talk to Jason Martin Of Super Real comic. He's a really nice guy and we drew in each other sketch book. Above is the sketch I got from Jason... check out my Perry Platypus on the hat. :)


Jason also dropped off a few copies of Super Real #2 with my cover art! That was the first time I saw it in print. Inside is a interview of me.... god, I hope I don't sound like a dweeb. Emerald City ComiCon 2006

What's a comic con without storm troopers? These guys were awesome. They came by my table and chat with me and Paul for a few minutes. Found out that their helmets have a built in mike system so you can hear them talk, just like in the movies.

From the left... it's Shane, Gene, and Bart. On the right side and not in the picture.... it's Paul, Augie, and Dev's table . Overall, I had a great time at the con. Friday night, I was so busy preparing that I only got a couple of hours of sleep. I hang in there and had a good time talking to folks and doing sketches. The not so good thing was the attendance. It was noticeable less this year. This is the first time the convention opened in April and with the weather being nice... folks just did other stuff outside... that's one theory anyway. Well, who knows... I still had a great time hanging out with my art pals and fellow comic geeks.

Gallery party report

Last Friday, we had the launch/gallery party at All City Coffee. It was a blast with James McDaniel as our DJ and free Neon Brown cd given out with Atomic Lead comic purchase.

Overall, everything went pretty smoothly. The one bad thing is.... I split beer over the Steve (the owner of All City Coffee) pants. Sorry Steve! I'm such a klutz.

Scarlet Fields:cover comp

Scarlet Field is a comic that I hope to finish up and be out sometime this year. I wrote, pencil, and in the process of inking it. Haven't done a whole book like this in about 10+ years. Allen Freeman is going to color it.

This is the first comp for the cover. There's going to be lots more tweaks and addition to the art.

Fan-Atic Press is publishing the book!

Another one bites the dust...

One of my favorite comic stores is called, Wonderworld books, in Burien, WA. It's one of those old school stores where the comic boxes placed everywhere down the isle and you can buy anything from toys to role-playing games. In the back, there's a little area where I've seen kids play card games or sometimes, role-playing games. From what I heard from my friend that grew up in Burien, this store have been there for a for a looooong time.

Well, I found out that this weekend... the store is going to close. Looks like they're not moving to a new location but just keep doing their business through their site. It's just sad that little Timmy had one less place to go to pick up his issue of Spiderman. Well, Timmy might just give up collecting comics and stick with playing video games or watching TV. This is why the comic industry is hurting. No stores for people to go and less people buying comics and less stores could stay in business.... a destructive cycle that's killing the comic industry. What's the answer... I'm not sure. What do you think?

Kamen Rider: the First

When I lived in Hong Kong, I would watch dubbed version of live action Japanese superhero shows like the Power Rangers. The monster's costumes were kinda bad and there's really no story. Just good old fashion good guys beating on the bad guys....pretty campy but I love it.

Kamen Riders were one of the first of these type of shows. They still making them in Japan. Last November, they remade the first Kamen Riders into a movie. Check out their official website.

I think it's been raining like 24 days straight now in Seattle. It's kinda depressing. Guess that's the price we pay for all the green trees in the northwest.

Anyway, the sketch is just a doodle when I was watching tv.
