Robin Williams
Today, I went to Zanadu Comics in downtown Seattle. After a while, I heard some one talking at the counter and it sounded familiar. I looked over and saw Robin Williams with a lady friend. He was shorter than I thought he would be and he got some fancy shades on. I didn't stare that long (only a few seconds) then I pretend to look at something else and got a couple more peeks at him. The store was empty, he started looking around the new comic racks and I left at that point. It was a cool surprise...That was my first celeb sighting in a comic store!

Storm Chasers
There's this show on Discovery called, "Storm Chasers"... basically bunch of folks driving around and try to collect data on tornados. One guy on the show made a armor vehicle called, "TIV" which stands for Tornado Intercept Vehicle. His goal is to drive into a tornado and film it for a documentary. That's half the fun of watching, to see if he can do it.

Amy Winehouse
I was checking my email and I saw this picture of Amy Winehouse in the celeb section of aol. It was so odd to say the least and thought it would make an interesting sketch. The angle is different from the photo and I took some liberty with the expression... otherwise, she did look like that! Poor Amy... I hope she pull it together some day.

Magma
AKA... Goldar (in the US), is a giant alien robot that can turn into a rocket ship. It's a manga and TV series in the 60's. Of course there's a boy that can call Golder to fight evil monsters like most of those old rubber suit monster shows. One cool thing about Goldar... his belly can open up and fire missles. :)

Lennon and Ono
While surfing the net, I ran into a photo of Yoko Ono and John Lennon holding a "War is over" sign. It’s probably taken shortly after the Vietnam War. I thought the photo was pretty cool and I quickly sketch it out. I'm not trying to make any political statement (well, war in general is bad...) ... the photo just inspired me to doodle this sketch and I thought it turned out okay.

Ghost Hunters
One show I try to catch every week is Ghost Hunters on the Scifi... (on Halloween, there's a 7 hours live show...wee!) Jason Hawes (left) and Grant Wilson (right) is the founders of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) and they go to supposedly haunted place to gather evidence of paranormal activity. The things they usually catch are EVP (electronic voice phenomenon), orbs (always dust), and sometime shadow people. Once in a blue moon, they might have a picture of mist...perhaps form by a spirit. I put three of paranormal phenomenon in the picture above.... can you find them? One hint, the device Grant is holding is a EMF scanner. A bonus point if you know what that is. :)
Do I believe everything on the show... of course not. I'm actually a big skeptic about all these stuff but just find it entertaining to watch. At the same time, I am open minded and don't think anyone got everything all figured out. The universe is a big place... there are plenty of things that will surprise us.
*UPDATE... I sent the artwork to Grant Wilson and he used it as his avatar on his Myspace. How freakin' cool is that?! You can check for yourself on his Myspace page right now cuz I don't know how long he'll leave it there... or just click on the pic on the right, to enlarge the screen capture.

Palin and Biden
Yes... that's Joe Biden in the corner, just steaming mad at Sarah Palin. For someone that most American never heard of couple months ago, Mrs. Palin really jump into the spotlight. The VP debate average 70 million viewers! It doesn't hurt either to have Tina Fey doing your impression on SNL. Maverick!

Yao Ming and Lin Hao
One touching moment at the Olympic opening was Yao Ming holding a little boy, Lin Hao (9 yrs old) in his arm to watch the fireworks. The boy was a survior of the major quake in southwest China's Sichuan province on May 12. He risked his life to go into his collapsed school and rescued 2 of his classmates. Part of his hair is missing... probably where the medic put the IV during his recovery.

Olympic 2008
Did you see the opening ceremony last night? Holy cow... it was incredible! The drums, letter boxes, thousands of Tai Chi masters,... etc. It was the best Olympic Opening I've seen. Out of all the performers, I thought the cheerleaders worked the hardest at the show. They danced and clapped their hands (non stop) for more then an hour as all the athletes walked into the stadium. They have one water bottle strap to their side... and I didn't see one person using it. Good job, ladies!

Illustration Friday: Sail
When I saw "Sail" on IF... the first thing that came to mind was a boat. Put I pushed it to sailing in the sky. Maybe the boy is using his blanket to help catch the wind.

Modok!
Modok will take over the world!! Although he's a pretty goofy villain in Marvel U... there just something cool about a big giant head on a rocket chair. How can you not like a villain with that hair cut! HA!
Rocket chair also comes in handy if you need some fast food.... check out his right hand.
FYI... Modok stands for "Mobile/Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing"

Totoro!
I was inspired to do this fan art because I saw this site... Totoro Forrest Project. It's a fund raiser to save the Sayama forrest which is Miyazaki's inspiration for the "Totoro" film... one of my all time fav animation.

Batman
I remember watching the Batman TV series and thought it was the coolest thing ever. A live action superhero show... cool. Of course, looking back now... it not that cool. Anyway, I still feel the costume and the batmobile is very... groovy and far out. ;)

Tony Stark and Iron Man
I really dig the Iron Man movie and wanted to do a fan art. Robert Downey Jr did an awesome job and if you haven't seen it yet.... you got to!I use the classic comic armor in this pic. The mark I in the movie is great and you can see how everything work... I just perfer the old comic armor... because it's easier to draw. ;)

Bonnie
Bonnie is at my house for couple of weeks. I must confess... I don't like her very much. She stares at me when I'm eating. Lay down right behind my chair when I'm working on the computer so I can't push my chair back. The feeding, giving her water, and the long walks... as if I need one more things to do. To get her back... I did a color sketch of her. There! That'll teach her a lesson. Hmph.

Olympia Festival sketch part 2
Here's the last sketch from the show.
When things were really slow at the festival, I got up and walk around. When I got back, this guy was by my table reading Betsy Mae Bite. It was perfectly normal... I encourage folks to flip through my books. But this guy took his time and read every single page. Didn't even say "hi" or anything... just stood there and read. Well, since he's there, I got out my sketchbook and drew him.... and no, he didn't notice. After he read BMB, he grab the Atomic Lead and read that one too... all 74 pages! After that, he went to another table and did the same thing.
The moral of this story... be polite. Or someone might write what you did on their blog. :)
